Student Services
DVD Video Segments
The Wake County Public School System offers a variety of services to our students beyond the excellent education offered to all. We offer nutritious breakfasts and lunches; bus transportation; Individual Education Programs and other assistance to students with learning, behavioral, developmental and other disabilities; English as a Second Language services for non-English speaking students; and a confidential hotline where they can get help for themselves or report crimes or threats to their safety or that of others.
Special Education Services
The school system provides a continuum of service to meet the individual needs of learners. If you have a child who has been receiving special education services, contact the base school in your attendance area and provide them with documentation of your child's special needs (i.e., a copy of the student's Individualized Education Program) When school is not in session, you may contact Special Education Services, 3600 Wake Forest Rd., Raleigh, NC or call 850-1620.
For information on locating your base school, please visit the Getting Started section of this Resource Center.
Child Nutrition Services (CNS)
CNS offers healthy breakfasts and lunches (menus online) and a variety of payment options to take the worry out of remembering your child's lunch money. WCPSS participates in Federal and State Free-and-Reduced Price meal programs.
English as a Second Language (ESL)
The ESL programs teaches the English language to ESL students so they can gain access to the NC Standard Course of Study, graduate with a diploma, and participate fully in American society.
Transportation Services
The Wake County Public School System provides bus transportation to students living more than one-and-a-half (1.5) miles from school and to students with special needs. If your child qualifies to ride a bus to school, you and your child need to understand the rules for school bus riders. You also need to understand how to petition for a different school bus stop if you are unsatisified with your assigned one.
Security
The Wake County Public School System is committed to providing students with a safe and secure learning environment. Students feeling safe is key to academic excellence.
State-of-the-art alarm systems, security cameras, school resource officers, bike patrols and programs such as SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere) and the WAVE (Working Against Violence Everywhere) hotline have been put in place to ensure that students and staff are kept safe and can concentrate on teaching and learning.
