Curriculum: Traditional
Traditional curriculum schools offer students high quality instruction, opportunities for advanced studies, creative exploration and extra-curricular activities in a nurturing educational setting. Some of the highest-performing schools in Wake County are traditional curriculum schools.
Description
Davis Drive Elementary located in suburban Cary, North Carolina, provides a
quality education in a challenging, nurturing, multi-cultural environment.
Students are actively engaged in learning opportunities and cooperative
groups. Technology is a vital component of the integrated curriculum taught at
Davis Drive Elementary. All classrooms have computers, which are networked
throughtout the school and keep staff and students in touch with one another
as well as with the global commjunity. Learning extends beyond the confines
of the classroom to the outdoor classroom and pond located on the campus or to
the student tended garden plots located by the K/1 wing or the fossil pit
behind the fifth grade wing.
Davis Drive Elementary has also established a strong reputation as a school
where high academic standards prevail. Since the 1996-1997 school year, our
school has been honored as a North Carolina School of Excellence with over 97%
of our students perfoming at or above grade level. In addition to upholding
strong acadamic standards, our school also provides many other opportunities
for students such as the jump rope team, chess club, recorder ensemble,
chorus, Odyessy of the Mind, computer club, photography club, student council.
A large after school daycare program is operated for the convenience of our
parents and supervised by our staff. Davis Drive welcomes parental
participation in the total school experience. Our PTA is a strong partner in
assisting the staff with our mission of educating all of our children and won
the Golden Acorn Award for having membership exceeding total student
enrollment.
